Quick answer
Every HYROX division
Whichever division you enter, you face the same eight runs and eight stations in the same order. Here is who each one is for.
| Division | Format | Who it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Open | Solo (1) | The standard individual division, open to everyone, with the baseline station weights. The most common way to race your first HYROX. |
| Pro | Solo (1) | An individual division open to everyone, exactly like Open, but with roughly 20–35% heavier station loads. Anyone can enter; only the weights are heavier. |
| Doubles | Team of 2 | A team of two splitting the work: partners share the runs together and divide the station reps/distance between them. |
| Mixed Doubles | Team of 2 | A two-person team of one man and one woman, splitting the runs together and sharing the station work. |
| Relay | Team of 4 | A team of four where each athlete completes a quarter of the race, handing over in turn, the most accessible team format. |
| Adaptive | Solo (1) | A division for athletes with impairments, with formats adapted to the athlete while keeping the HYROX structure. |
Open vs Pro
Open and Pro are both solo, both open to everyone, and both cover the same course. The only difference is weight: Open uses the baseline station loads, while Pro is roughly 20–35% heavier across the loaded stations. Anyone can enter either one, and almost everyone starts in Open. The precise figures are on the HYROX weights page.
Doubles, Mixed Doubles and Relay
The team formats are the most accessible way to experience HYROX. In Doubles and Mixed Doubles, two athletes run every run together and divide each station’s work between them. In a Relay, a team of four splits the race into quarters and hands over in turn, a great first event for a group of friends.
The Elite 15
The "Elite 15" is the top 15 pro athletes who race the dedicated elite wave, an invited/qualified field, not a division you enter directly. It is not a division you enter directly. You reach it by performance, but it is the field you will hear about at the front of major events.
